wayne darling

yesterday, max stunned me with deciding of his own volition to make a paper tshirt for cleo. of course, it was way too small, so i suggested i use it as a cuff / bangle style, which pleased max (phew).  moving onwards and upwards from this idea, as max does, he decided to make a tee for himself. he wanted me to help him measure himself, but i suggested he use one of his t-shirts to help with the design. he loved this idea, but was ultimately devastated that the sleeves didn't work out, and he couldn't put his arms through without ripping the staples out. all of this aside, i loved his creativity, and am secretly thrilled with the idea of having a fashion designing son - his generation's wayne cooper, perhaps? (bloody aaron, though... reminded max that i have a never-used sewing machine tucked away... all very well for him to suggest this, from the distance and safety of his donga!)

splurged (shhhh) on some 'ecco' shoes today... like walking on little clouds, i tells ya!

bad monkey

23/06/2010:

I am such a bad mother. I have just recovered from a massive bout of hysterical laughter, resulting from Max getting stuck in the monkey outfit I bought from Spotlight today. Seriously, it was already a tight squeeze… and for some reason, I forced the hood over his head… and do you think it was going to come off without a fight??!! I was shaking with laughter, and Max was bawling – yes, that’s how awful I am! I even asked Max if I could take a photo… and offered him a dollar for the shot! Eventually eased the bloody suit off. He’d still be furious with me, if it weren’t for the Crocodile outfit – it’s actually a dragon, but I won’t tell if you don’t – which he adores. And it fits like a glove... (actually, scratch that - it was so tight, major wedgie!)
Phew, the weekend’s jungle party is sorted!
(When I apologised to Max, I explained my hysterics by recounting the story of me trying on a ball dress in the city when I was in high school. The dress had feathers all over it, and it was very tight. I couldn’t get the damned thing off, so called Donna in to assist. I told Max that seeing him stuck in the monkey outfit reminded me of seeing feathers fly off this lovely and expensive but too tight dress!)

our weekend in harvey

our weekend away at bluehills farmstay in harvey was brilliant! the weather was absolutely gorgeous, and although chilly, we cranked up the potbelly in our chalet, and sat by the open fire in the late afternoon on saturday, keeping warm and toasting marshmallows. the chalets - wow - just gorgeous! three chalets are on the property, each one with two bedrooms.

the entrance mat in our chalet was a divine mosaic in the style of a turkish rug - obviously made an impression on me! the kitchen and bathroom knobs were also mosaic style. the dining table was gorgeous, a rustic wooden number. the views from the massive deck were to die for... the grassy hills, harvey dam, herds of cows, and occasional groups of kangaroos. max and cleo adored the sunken trampoline and playing in the cubby and sandpit. we fed the cows (no milking, sadly!), ponies, chickens, rabbits, ducks and sheep. max had a pony ride, cleo had a pony 'sit' :) farmer justin took us for a ute ride to the farm's dam, where the kids pulled the yabby traps (catch & release) and collected firewood. on saturday, we explored the town... two IGAs across the road from each other, something i still cannot understand!!! we climbed the big orange (!), picked oranges from trees, tasted some local wine, saw the may gibbs exhibit ('snugglepot and cuddlepie'; the author lived in harvey for two years), enjoyed walking through the gorgeous old gardens by the river (although cleo did suffer a nip from an over-zealous duck!), checked out the massive dam close up, and lunched at the old coast road brewery...

amazing views and the best set-up for kids: huge area dedicated to several cubbies, and an enormous climbing frame and sand pit. the huge grassy area was well utilised with complimentary bocce, cricket sets, balls, etc. it was a really lovely weekend away - we'll go again!

max with a tash

30/06/2010

max has a 'silly dress up day' at school today. he chose his outfit; a camouflage vest made with mum, which incorporates painting, and real leaves and feathers... a sombrero.... a moustache (started with a stick-on version but that was too itchy so mum drew one with an eyeliner).... a sandal on one foot, a sneaker and sock on the other... the other sock on his hand... lol... as i said, his own work! underneath he's wearing jeans and a top, and i packed his spare sneaker in case his foot became too cold, he he!

i re-jigged the playroom yesterday, so it's now 90% max and 10% cleo... i brought the kitchenette and table/chairs in from the the cubby, and set up a 'home corner' which cleo has already loved playing in. she's growing up so quickly! she found a dolls bottle in the kitchen and fed her doll - bless. initially she thought the bottle was an ear thermometer, so had that stuck in her ear, until i showed her it's actual use!

at school drop off yesterday, max hugged my knees and lifted his own legs off the floor, pulling me down on top of him (not full weight, but on my knees, pinning him!), and all of this with cleo in my arms! bit of a spectacle! max was screaming as he bumped his head, cleo was oblivious, and i simply couldn't move, as with cleo in my arms, i couldn't get off max!

aaron's home today, yay! we are going to a farm stay in harvey for two nights over the weekend, which should be (cold but) fun. i bought cleo some little wellies for the occasion! i already have a pair of spotty ones, and i hope to try my hand at milking a cow!
