Bali: 17 - 31 July 2011

We started our holiday in Legian, staying at the fab Legian Beach Hotel.

Our deluxe family suite was very spacious, with the grown ups bed upstairs and this handy lounge area alongside the kids twin beds.

No, we didn't 'make' Max push the stroller!  He wanted to!

The orange puppy was all Cleo wanted at the time... and she hasn't touched the thing since we arrived home!

The gorgeous exterior of Potatoe Head in Seminyak... a seriously stylish and funky bar / restaurant.

Potatoe Head's pool

Donna was on a work trip, so we pre-arranged this catch up!  Aaron, the kids and I arrived earlier, and ate dinner on the vast grassy ampitheatre... very cute set-up with a picnic blanket and breakfast table set out for us.

This boy loves watermelon juice!

Kids corner at Coffee Corner, Legian.  Awesome iced coffees sold here!

Chocolate ice-cream!

We spent some time with our friends Lisa and Andre, and their kids Ryan (above) and Alannah.  We enjoyed an excellent meal at the Indonational, where the kids enjoyed playing on this cart.

From Legian, we drove 2 hours north, to central Bali (Bedugal).

We stayed at Straweberry Hill Cottages, a series of cute but tiny chalets set into the side of the mountain.

The main reason we travelled to Bedugal was to visit the Bali Treetops Adventure Park in the Botanical Gardens... excellent fun! This was the 'training' circuit, where we learnt how to use the carabenas (sp?) and the flying fox attachment.

Max ADORED this place!

Cleo guarded the forest floor for us.

Flying fox fun!

Aaron and I loved the circuits too... they were sorted in categories up to 'black' which involved using hands to monkey along a long stretch before throwing yourself into a spider net.... no, we didn't get that far along!

This was a cute one for kids, the flying surfboard!

Those darn slats kept moving - quite challenging!

The pretty botanical gardens in Bedugal.

We walked from the gardens back into the (small) town of Bedugal, passing a random seller of rabbits.  Of course Max wanted one.  I had to explain the whole 'Customs' thing amd we eventually settled on taking a few rabbit photos instead!

What a cutie!

After our walk into town, we were starving.  Max ordered 'fish and chips'... and this was not what he expected!

Bedugal's bustling market...

Back at Strawberry Hills, where Aaron and Max assembled the kite Max bought from the market.  Yes, another kite!

The view from our tiny verandah... strawberry fields and a gorgeous green mountain!

From Bedugal, we drove to the north coast (passing through Singaraja) then travelled east, to Tulamben... where we happened across this amazing resort!  Only 3 months old... we paid $80AUD per night for a bungalow and breakfast.

Our lovely bungalow!

The infinity pool with ocean views... what a lucky find!

This lovely stone path leads to the ocean.

I really can't think why tourists would object to Tulamben?  It was lovely!  ;)

The insanely gorgeous view from our room!

Aaron did a shore dive in Tulamben, where the US Liberty (120m) is wrecked... loads of gorgeous fish and corals, too, plus an impressive drop-off.  I snorkelled over the wreck.

Waiting for Aaron to finish his dive :)

Rockiest beach E.V.E.R!

Max's new mate Henry from Shanghai.

Kids playing with rocks:  poor things ;)

We ate dinner at this Tulamben hotel's restarant... gorgeous gardens, worst meal!

Love this pathway, quite mesmerising.

Tulamben's sunrise.

How good is it to be two years old?  You can eat breakfast in public in your pjs!

The country side south of Tulamben; the town was so remote, I had to drive a 2 hour round trip to reach an ATM!

Verdant valley.

Pretty rice terraces.

En route to Jimbaran, we stopped at Candidasa for lunch - what a pretty little town.  We might spend some time here, next time.

We stopped here for lunch, with no real idea of the area, and what we'd find at the end of the pathway...

The end of the pathway!

At Jimbaran, we stayed at a homely villa owned by a Perth couple and hosted by a local Balinese family.  While the villa was extremely well set up, the location was very isolated (top of the hill).  Good value, though, for only $100 per night.

At Jimbaran Beach, for a delicous seafood meal.  This was the first time - in how many visits to Bali? - that we'd eaten at Jimbaran!  Very impressed, we shall return!

Love the set-up of tables on the soft sand.  Can you see Aaron at our table on the far right?

The kids benefited from some other children's hard work!

Photo shoot on the lovely beach... an assistant was keeping tight watch of the star of the shoot, a pair of fancy heels.

On the walk from our villa to the 'high street'.

We bought 4 lanterns from this family; these now adorn our backyard.

The 'high street' :)

The food at this restaurant was brilliant.

We missed the hustle bustle so cut short our Jimbaran stay & returned to Legian for the last three nights of our trip.

'Bubby' got pretty grubby!

At a laundry near the hotel...

A girl after my own heart!

Loving these lights.

Legian Beach Hotel's lovely pool area, one of two pools.

Last supper, at the lovely Ketumbah.

My gorgeous boys - best photo!
